Statement of adherence to privacy and data protection

I take the privacy of Ackadias’ visitors very seriously. Please read the following policy to understand how I will treat your personal information when you use this site. Any changes to this policy will be posted on here.

At present this policy is limited to this static page. Hopefully I’ll eventually get round to implementing a valid, cross-platform, browser aware, XML privacy policy.

Update 2018:
Ackadia is currently a standard WordPress blog, with default cookies for traffic counting etc. No personal detailed are recorded by us.

Archived notes:

Cookies, mine
I haven’t actually gotten round to writing any yet, nor do I see a great need for them. When or if I do they will relate to making your visit(s) better and to improving the site for all. None will ever required, but the voluntary information I am likely to use could include:

Your name – for a simple “Welcome back, Paul”, “Welcome, guest”

Your style sheet preference – for example, whether you want bigger or smaller text.

Cookies, 3rd party

Note however that some third-party scripts may create cookies. (See also Google below).

From time to time I use third-party advertising companies (primarily Google) to serve ads when you visit Ackadia. These companies may use information (not including personal details such as your name, address, email address or telephone number) about your visits to this and other web sites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and would like to know your options in relation to not having this information used by these companies, please visit the Network Advertising Initiative

Cookies, Google
Regarding Google, the use of “interest-based advertising” and the DoubleClick DART cookie

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
  • Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to visitors based on their visit to this and other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of the use of this DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy.

Blog, (Forums) and Gallery etc
These can gather information such as user name, IP addresses and time stamp, but the use of this information is limited to banning spammers and/or abusive posters. This is a family site and as such I have zero tolerance for spammers, flamers and similar undesirables.

Caveat:
Note that this privacy policy does not cover comments, open forum or blog posts and the like as I have little control over what free form text you choose to submit, beyond removing offensive material when I see it.

Web Analytics and Web Site Logging
I do use Google Analytics and other logs purely to monitor traffic: the number of visitors, countries of origin, overall bandwidth used etc. This “visitor information” can include data such as the time and date, the IP address of the computer used and hosting details and is periodically deleted. This is intended only for demographic statistics to improve the site and does not record any personal data.

Summary and contact

This is a non-commercial site and does not actively gather personal data beyond simple usage demographics (ie one February Ackadia had 100,000 visitors, 34% were from the United States), however if you still have any concerns, please reach me via the contact page

PRIVACY POLICY UPDATE (year?)
I (currently no longer) use a cookie and a tag of a third-party service provider, VisualDNA, to collect information about users’ browsing activity on Ackadia (not including users’ names, addresses or other personal information). VisualDNA’s cookie and tag allow me and VisualDNA to build profiles so that users’ online experience can be more relevant to their specific interests. You have the right to choose whether or not to accept VisualDNA’s cookie and tag by clicking here Visual DNA’s cookie policy. VisualDNA does not share users’ information with any third-party, other than in anonymised, aggregated form. To learn more, visit VisualDNA’s privacy policy at Visual DNA’s privacy policy.
