More positive affirmation notes from my past

These notes have been in a box for I don’t know how many years and are perhaps a measure of the person I was or maybe could have been, had I not lost my path and let life and depression wear me down. I am trying to fight back now, hence posts like this that you may well consider rambling and vainglorious, but that I consider soul-searching. However you look at it, while I lack the citations, the notes will have been gleamed from reading scores of what by now will be classics of the genre.

Anyway, read or don’t, this is for my benefit, though I hope you learn from it too! Naturally you can substitute he/she and him/her as your gender dictates 🙂

# But never, under any circumstances, pretend to be what you are not.

For many people there is a temptation to live for the moment, to settle for a dead-end job with higher pay in order to gain as much money and as much time for leisure and pleasure as possible. This is the sure way to be a failure all your life. The time to start is NOW. Not tomorrow, not next week, not when you have enough time, enough money, but this instant. There is no such thing as perfect conditions, you must adapt the current situation to build the future you desire.

Once you have finally and sensibly decided upon your future vocation stick to it at all costs and never give up until you’ve achieved it. History is ripe with examples of people giving up too soon, of not having the grit to stomach the hard, depressing patches that life throws at you.

How often have you seen someone plough money into a bandit machine, stop and watch the next person drop the jackpot with their first coin? Then there’s the example of the mining company who sold out for a ridiculous price only to discover that they were within mere feet of one of the largest gold veins in America’s history.

The scientist, Edmundson, who invented the light bulb never gave up. When one method never worked he didn’t say he had failed, he said he had eliminated another line of thought and thus was closer to succeeding. Despite all the pessimistic sneers of fellow colleagues and 10,000 experiments he finally arrived at the correct design. So remember, rejection is not the end of the world, merely a temporary set-back on the road to eventual success.

Right, you have decided what you want from life, how do you go about it. For a start you do NOT tell anybody. Negative attitudes early on will destroy you as soon as you reach a bad point and are told, "I told you so." People like this love to see others fail as it makes them feel "big."

On a similar line, never take secondhand advice. Neighbour Joe may well have heard of such and such, but it is highly unlikely that he really knows anything. Would you go to a vet with a broken arm, or a library with your latest novel? Of course not, so always seek expert advice were needed.

"You wrote your own past, therefore you control your own future."

Come at the problem a different way if the method you are using does not work. If the new approach fails then try another and another and another until you do find the key. For there is a key, there always is, and continual, thoughtful and undeviating search and attack will produce it.

The affirmation of strong perseverance of keeping at it, of continuous, undeviating effort, is bound to pay off ultimately if you have the inner compulsion to visualise it and keep at it.

I must and do know the real person deep within me.

Do not let circumstances defeat you. With your mind, control circumstances. You can if you think you can.

Question: Have you made a complete and detailed study of all the factors involved? Do you honestly feel you are knowledgeable? Is the organisation of your material as clear and concise as it should be?

Believe you can solve your problems. Belief is an extraordinarily powerful force. Send out positive thoughts and they will bring back positive results.

Real belief thinking leads to successful achievement.

Take an emergency leisurely. That is to say, let nothing make you hot and bothered. Cool it, always cool it.

"When I became an officer I knew nobody could ever be a good commander of men if he did not keep his head in a crisis"

Cultivate this ability.

The non-uptight person is a sound and sensible type of individual who has an objective in life, who knows what he wants to do and just goes on doing it. He lets nothing agitate nor disturb him unduly. Thoroughly in control of himself mortally and emotionally, he goes along at an unhurried, orderly pace on his way, all the way.

To get ahead in this world you HAVE to take chances.

Subconsciously you (may) expect to make a mess of anything new you might undertake.

Take the chance.

It is not this or that or t’other – the real reason is that your motivation is not motivated.

Take courage and faith. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Break the grip of this endless hesitating NOW.

If you don’t you’ll be second-rate for the rest of your life.

Implement your creative ideas with your whole mind.

Go all out and watch things really work out.

Believers sweep everything before them.

Confidence draws results. It has a powerful magnetism.

It is a fact that what you deeply expect you tend to get. Habitual expectations attract corresponding circumstances and events.

You can if you think you can.

By using the power of imagination, by imagining – throwing mind and heart over an obstacle – it can be overcome.

The basic factor leading to success is positive thinking.

Give it all you’ve got and life will give all it has to you.

Never think of yourself as failing – that is the most dangerous thing for the mind always tries to complete what it pictures.

Nothing so plagues and lessens human beings as the crippling, misery producing feeling of personal inadequacy…

But you CAN be relieved of this trouble, no matter how long you may have suffered from it. And the cure begins when you decide that you really want to change, when you become determined.

Whenever a negative thought about yourself comes to mind, deliberately voice a positive thought to cancel it out.

Do not build obstacles in your imagination – ever. Never inflate things by fear thoughts of failure.

When you become aware of the potential force within yourself, you will realise that you do not need to be defeated simply because you once had feelings of inferiority.

It is a fact – a very serious fact, that we peg ourselves at just about the level of our self-expectation. Refuse to believe that there are things you cannot do.

Always, ALWAYS tell people what they can do – NOT what they cannot.

Similarly, always, ALWAYS tell yourself what you can do – NOT what you cannot.

Quote: "The world is moving so fast these days that the man who says it cannot be done is generally interrupted by someone doing it." ~ Harry Emerson Fosdick

I read a similar thing only the other day, a Chinese proverb : "The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it"

There is no guarantee … but you must not be afraid of failing.

As you think, so shall it be.

Make the impossible possible.

Never, never, never settle for defeat.

You can be greater than anything that can happen to you.

Walt Disney, in Kansas City, was told rather coldly and cruelly by editors (each and all approached) that he had no talent.

Law of successful Achievement:

Have a goal – a sharply focused objective. You must know what you want to do and where you want to go, what you want to be. And have no doubt about it.

Think first, forge later. Put down each and every idea or notion that occurs to you – good, bad or otherwise, practical or not, obvious or way out. All ideas. (Early mind-mapping)

Applied Imagination:

Write down on paper your three greatest wishes, 1, 2, 3. Look at this list every day.

Spend an hour every day analysing and studying your job. Do this every day and in less than five years you will be an acknowledged expert on the job.

Spend an hour each day with a blank sheet of paper in front of you and write down every idea that you can think of.

Quote : "When people are bored it is primarily with their own selves that they are bored." ~ Eric Hoffer, writer.

Psychiatrists say that if you are chronically bored, you are a bore.

Visit Lauterbrunnen and Schilthorn Mountain in Switzerland – for the scenery.

Boredom and frustration are produced by bored and frustrated attitudes.

Personal achievement power is often siphoned off by the mass of wrong thoughts that clutter up the mind.

Your mind, when controlled, can develop unlimited power.

Mental control gives power over things that would otherwise defeat you.

(On a photo): "Take charge of your thoughts – you can do what you will with them.

Quote: "All the resources you need are in your mind" ~ Colonel Theodore Roosevelt Jnr.

When you rely on your mind it will deliver – provided you’ve put something into it.

Belief creates the actual fact. It is therefore very important to keep the mind free of disbelief and eliminate the negative thoughts.

Every disadvantage can be turned into an advantage.

If only…
If only…
  If only …
… doesn’t change anything. It’s looking back at what cannot be changed.
Start the sentence:
Next time…
Next time…
  Next time I WILL…

Get out of past tenses. There’s a perverse streak in all of us that makes us like to hash over old mistakes.
Look instead to the future.

"If only&hellip" attitudes lead to a dull and uninspired reaction to things. But "Next time…" signifies a positive and courageous attack on our problems.

Living in the past, present AND future all at the same time does not make sense. It is an error to waste time and mental energy brooding over past events or worrying about problems that may or may not arise in the future.

The successful person lives in the present, but always headed towards next time – plans for the future.

You are playing cards and you get lousy cards. You gripe and complain. You always like to win.

That is only a game, but it’s like life itself. You’re going to have many bad hands dealt to you. WHAT YOU’VE GOT TO DO IS TAKE EACH HAND – EACH EVENT – BE IT GOOD OR BAD, AND DON’T WHINE OR COMPLAIN, JUST TAKE THE HAND, THE SITUATION – AND PLAY IT OUT. BE MAN ENOUGH TO DO THAT AND YOU’LL COME OUT WELL IN THE END.

(Yes, written in capitals at the time)

Forget the past. There is only sickness for you if you don’t forget it and look to the future.

Do not take yourself too seriously, but believe in yourself completely.
WORK DILIGENTLY
THINK CREATIVELY
Do all possible to inspire a successful outcome. Apply intelligent thought in-depth.

NEVER LET ANYTHING AGITATE YOU.
Never let anything rile you, nothing disturb you. Take things AS THEY COME. This is the way to successful living.

DON’T GET STIRRED UP AND IN A DITHER. TAKE IT EASY.

TAKE THE HANDS LIFE DEALS YOU AND PLAY THEM WITHOUT GRUMBLING. YOU WILL COME OUT OK.

DON’T TAKE YOURSELF TOO SERIOUSLY.

Never give in to defeat for even the most difficult, ‘impossible’ situations can be overcome.

It is better to hope than to despair.

REALISE THAT YOU HAVE THE RESERVES OF INNER FORCE. LET THE CHALLENGES OF YOUR AMBITIONS, OF YOUR ASPIRATIONS, AROUSE YOUR SLUMBERING AND OFTEN UNUSED POWERS INTO ACTION.

DARE TO BE WHAT YOUR BEST SELF KNOWS YOU OUGHT TO BE. DARE TO BE A BIGGER HUMAN BEING THAN YOU HAVE EVER BEEN.

HAVE GREAT HOPES AND DARE TO GO ALL OUT FOR THEM.

HAVE GREAT DREAMS AND DARE TO LIVE THEM.

HAVE TREMENDOUS EXPECTATIONS AND BELIEVE IN THEM.

Those who do the best in their chosen activity are the people who never take ‘no’ for an answer.

The ‘If…’ thinker gets nowhere in life.
But the ‘how’ thinker wastes no energy on post-mortems when trouble or even disaster hits him. S/he immediately looks for the best solution, for s/he knows there is always a solution.

When a door shuts in your face, it is the time for you to realise that it shut in order to lead you to another door, an open one, that is right for you.

Quote: "In order to do a good job with anything, you’ve got to know all there is to know about it. Then do the best you can. Have great merchandise, treat people right, and always have confidence in yourself." ~ Amas Sulka

THE GREAT SECRET OF GETTING WHAT YOU WANT FROM LIFE IS TO KNOW WHAT YOU WANT AND BELIEVE YOU CAN HAVE IT.

And always do something for others – especially the less fortunate.

THEN GIVE IT ALL YOU’VE GOT. NEVER GIVE UP.

Dare to be what you want to be – and can be.

Never take no for an answer. Keep on hitting, keep on trying.

YOU CAN IF YOU THINK YOU CAN.

Hold the image of the life you want and make the image become fact.

(end).

If I didn’t know better I’d say I wrote that for a future ‘me’ to find when I needed it!

Here’s a final few more quotes of interest I’ve recently found to top this off.

"When was the last time you did something for the first time?" ~ Unknown

"When one door closes, another opens, but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed-door that we do not see the one which has opened for us." ~ Alexander Graham Bell

"Challenge the way you see something now by imagining yourself in the future, looking back." ~ unknown

"Why not learn to enjoy the little things – there are so many of them" ~ Anonymous
